Sorbitol MacConkey Agar Base

CT-SMAC agar is specially designed for the selective isolation and culture of O157 bacteria. The main principle is: peptone provides such as carbon, nitrogen, vitamins and other nutrients required for bacterial growth; bile salt, crystal violet and thiophosphate mainly inhibit the growth of gram-positive; potassium tellurite inhibits the growth of gram-negative bacteria other than O157; bacteria that utilize sorbitol produce acid by growing on the culture medium, turns the acid-base indicator neutral red in the culture medium red, thus making the colony red, while Escherichia coli O157 does not ferment sol, and the colony grows colorless on this medium.
