Mannitol yolk polymyxin agar base (MYP)
Mannitol yolk polymyxin agar base (MYP)
Mannitol yolk polymyxin agar base (MYP) is a commonly used selective identification medium in microbial detection, and its core is used for the separation and preliminary identification of Bacillus cereus in food and environmental samples. Its formula contains mannitol, yolk extract and polymyxin B. Polymyxin B can inhibit most gram-negative bacteria and non-target gram-positive bacteria to achieve selectivity. Egg yolk extract can make Bacillus cereus produce characteristic lecithin enzyme reaction and form milky white precipitation ring; Mannitol fermentation test can assist identification. Because the target bacteria do not ferment mannitol, the colony is red, and the culture medium around the colony turns yellow after the fermentation of miscellaneous bacteria. This culture medium integrates the functions of selection and identification, and is a key tool for the detection of Bacillus cereus.
