Tobacco Leaf Signal Peptide Detection Kit
Tobacco Leaf Signal Peptide Detection Kit
Secretory proteins refer to proteins that are synthesized inside cells and can be secreted outside the cells to exert their functions. Signal peptides are located at the N-terminus of secretory proteins and typically consist of 15-30 amino acids. Once the signal peptide sequence is synthesized, it is recognized by the signal recognition particle, causing protein synthesis to pause or slow down. The signal recognition particle then directs the ribosome to the endoplasmic reticulum, where protein synthesis resumes. Guided by the signal peptide, the newly synthesized protein enters the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum and is eventually transported outside the cell, with the signal peptide being cleaved off. This kit uses the non-toxic effector protein Avr3a from the pathogenic oomycete Phytophthora and the corresponding potato resistance gene R3a in the host. R3a can recognize Avr3a inside plant cells, leading to cell death. However, when Avr3a is fused with a signal peptide and secreted outside the plant cell, it cannot be recognized by R3a and therefore does not cause cell death.
