Soil proteases are involved in the transformation of amino acids, proteins, and other organic compounds containing protein nitrogen present in the soil, and their hydrolysates are one of the sources of nitrogen for higher plants. S-ACPT catalyzes protein hydrolysis in acidic environment, which is related to soil organic matter content, nitrogen and other soil properties.

Under acidic conditions, S-ACPT can hydrolyze casein to produce tyrosine. Under alkaline conditions, tyrosine reduced phosphomolybdenum acid compounds to produce tungsten blue. There is a characteristic absorption peak at 680nm.
