Phenol red glucose broth

Phenol red glucose broth is a differential medium for microbial fermentation test. Its main components include peptone, nitrogen source and growth factor provided by beef extract powder, and high content of glucose as fermentable carbohydrate; Phenol red as acid-base indicator. Through inoculation culture, this culture medium can observe the ability of bacteria to ferment glucose to produce acid (the culture medium turns from red to yellow) or gas (bubbles are collected in the catheter). It is an important biochemical detection tool to distinguish bacteria such as Enterobacteriaceae, and is widely used in the identification of food, water quality and clinical microorganisms.
