Orthomonas identification agar
The agar for identification of O. shigelloides is a solid medium for selective separation and preliminary identification of O. shigelloides. Its ingredients include nutrients such as peptone and yeast extract, as well as inhibitors such as bile salts and antibiotics (such as ampicillin), which can effectively inhibit the growth of gram-positive bacteria and most other gram-negative bacteria. The culture medium uses inositol fermentation and indole production as the main identification basis: Orthomonas shigelloides can ferment inositol to produce acid, make colonies yellow and form red indole rings around colonies. It is widely used to detect pathogenic bacteria in clinical diarrhea specimens and environmental water samples.
