YP/YEP Medium
Fission yeast, also known as "Schizosaccharomyces," is widely used as a model organism in molecular and cellular biology. It may be the eukaryote with the shortest genome. The division of fission yeast cells occurs through budding and medial division, producing two daughter cells of equal size. This characteristic is used to study the cell division cycle. As early as the 1950s, fission yeast was used in genetic and cell cycle research. YEP medium is the standard medium for maintaining and propagating fission yeast and baker's yeast, with its main components being yeast extract and peptone. YEP broth is YPD without glucose, used as the basis for mutant culture. YEPM medium is YEP medium with added maltose, which can be abbreviated as YPM medium. YEPS medium is YEP medium with added sorbitol, which can be abbreviated as YPS medium.
