NGKG medium

NGKG medium is a solid medium for selective separation and preliminary identification of Gram-negative bacilli. Its core components include peptone and other nutrients, as well as nalidixic acid and kanamycin to inhibit gram-positive bacteria and most non-target gram-negative bacteria. The culture medium also contains aescin and ammonium ferric citrate as the identification system: bacteria that can hydrolyze aescin (such as some Klebsiella) will form characteristic dark brown halo around their colonies. It is widely used in the screening and identification of specific pathogenic bacteria such as Enterobacteriaceae in food, water samples and clinical specimens.
