Improved Skirrow's agar base

The improved Skirrow agar base is a highly selective solid medium for direct isolation of Campylobacter, especially for Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli in clinical and food samples. Its basic ingredients include peptone, trypsin digest and other nutrients, and sheep blood is added to provide necessary growth factors. The key selective antibiotics include vancomycin, polymyxin B and trimethoprim, which can effectively inhibit the growth of most gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative miscellaneous bacteria and fungi. Campylobacter can form characteristic gray, moist, flat or diffused colonies under microaerobic conditions, which is convenient for preliminary identification.
