The improved Camp-BAP agar base is an efficient medium for selective isolation of Campylobacter. Its basic nutrition is provided by peptone, trypsin digest and yeast extract powder, and sheep blood or horse blood is added to provide necessary growth factors and heme. Key selective antibiotics include vancomycin, polymyxin B, trimethoprim and trimethoprim, which can effectively inhibit gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative miscellaneous bacteria and fungi. Campylobacter can form gray, flat, moist and characteristic colonies with diffusion tendency under strict aerobic conditions, which is a classic choice for separating Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli.
