Oxidized Thioredoxin Reductase (TrxR) Activity Assay Kit
Oxidized Thioredoxin Reductase (TrxR) Activity Assay Kit
Thioredoxin Reductase (TrxR) is an NADPH-dependent dimeric selenoenzyme containing a FAD domain. It is a member of the pyridine nucleotide-disulfide oxidoreductase family and, together with thioredoxin and NADPH, constitutes the thioredoxin system. Similar to the activity of Glutathione Reductase (GR), TrxR catalyzes the reduction of oxidized glutathione (GSSG) to form reduced glutathione (GSH), and thus serves as one of the key enzymes in the glutathione redox cycle. TrxR catalyzes the reduction of 5,5'-dithiobis-(2-nitrobenzoic acid) (DTNB) by NADPH, generating 2-nitro-5-thiobenzoic acid (TNB) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP+). TNB has a characteristic absorption peak at 412 nm; therefore, the activity of TrxR can be calculated by measuring the rate of increase in TNB concentration at a wavelength of 412 nm.
