γ-glutamyl Transpeptidase (γ-GT) Activity Assay Kit

Gamma-glutamyl transferase (γ-GT) is a key enzyme in the gamma-glutamyl cycle, catalyzing the degradation of glutathione (GSH). γ-GT facilitates the transfer of the gamma-glutamyl group from GSH or other gamma-glutamyl compounds to a receptor molecule. It can also catalyze the hydrolysis of GSH and other gamma-glutamyl compounds, producing glutamate and playing a crucial role in extracellular glutathione metabolism.

Specifically, γ-GT catalyzes the transfer of the gamma-glutamyl group from gamma-glutamyl-p-nitroaniline to N-glycylglycine, generating p-nitroaniline—which has a characteristic light absorption peak at 405 nm. The activity of γ-GT can be calculated by measuring the rate of increase in light absorption at 405 nm.
