SC agar base

SC agar base is a solid medium for selective isolation and enumeration of enterococci, and its name comes from "Slanetz and Bartley Medium". The basic ingredients include peptone and yeast extract to provide nutrition, glucose as energy, and sodium azide as a key selective inhibitor, which can effectively inhibit the growth of most gram-negative bacteria and some gram-positive bacteria. Enterococcus can ferment glucose to produce acid at a specific culture temperature, which makes the colony and its surrounding culture medium appear red in the presence of TTC (triphenyltetrazole chloride). This culture medium is widely used in the detection and counting of enterococcus faecalis in water quality (especially drinking water) and food.
