MCP agar
MCP agar is a special medium for selective isolation and enumeration of Vibrio vulnificus. Its basic ingredients include peptone, yeast extract powder and high concentration sodium chloride to provide nutrition and create a hypertonic environment for the growth of Vibrio. The key identification system is based on cellobiose fermentation and pigment production: most Vibrio vulnificus can ferment cellobiose to produce acid and form unique yellow colonies on the medium containing bromothymol blue indicator; Other vibrios that do not ferment cellobiose (such as Vibrio parahaemolyticus) are blue-green. This characteristic, combined with selective inhibitors in the culture medium, enables it to effectively isolate and preliminarily identify Vibrio vulnificus from aquatic products and environmental samples.
