Clostridium differential agar (DCA)

Clostridium identification agar (DCA) is a solid medium for selective isolation and preliminary identification of Clostridium, especially Clostridium perfringens. Its basic ingredients include peptone, beef extract powder and yeast extract to provide rich nutrition. The key selective system consists of high content of bile salts and crystal violet, which can effectively inhibit the growth of gram-negative bacteria and most gram-positive non-target bacteria. Typical colony characteristics are identified by combining yolk reaction (lecithin-producing enzyme forms milky white precipitation ring) and acid production by lactose fermentation (neutral red indicator turns red), which is especially convenient for identifying Clostridium perfringens and is widely used for the detection of Clostridium perfringens in food, clinical and environmental samples.
