Enhanced Clostridium Identification Agar (DRCA)
Enhanced Clostridium Identification Agar (DRCA)
Enhanced Clostridium Identification Agar (DRCA) is an improved formula based on standard Clostridium Identification Agar (DCA), which is used to selectively isolate and identify Clostridium perfringens, especially Clostridium perfringens. Its enhancement lies in adding nutrients such as peptone and yeast extract powder to support the better growth of Clostridium, and maintaining bile salts and crystal violet as key selective inhibitors to inhibit miscellaneous bacteria. Typical colony characteristics are identified by combining yolk reaction (lecithin enzyme produces milky white precipitation ring) and lactose fermentation produces acid (neutral red indicator turns red). This culture medium is widely used to detect and count Clostridium in food, water quality and environmental samples, especially Clostridium perfringens.
