The culture medium for Clostridium determination is a solid culture medium for selectively separating and counting Clostridium bacteria. Its basic components include peptone, yeast extract and glucose, which provide necessary nitrogen source, vitamins and carbon source. The key selective component is usually D- cycloserine or other specific antibiotics, which can effectively inhibit the growth of most non-target aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. When used under strict anaerobic conditions, the culture medium can support the formation of characteristic colonies of Clostridium, and it is often used for preliminary strain identification by observing the characteristics of egg yolk reaction (lecithin enzyme activity) and acid production by sugar fermentation, which is widely used for the detection and monitoring of Clostridium in food, medicine and environmental samples.
