Pancreatic-sulfite-cycloserine agar base (TSC)
Pancreatic-sulfite-cycloserine agar base (TSC)
Pancreas-sulfite-cycloserine agar base (TSC) is a solid medium for selective isolation and enumeration of Clostridium perfringens. Its basic components include tryptone as nitrogen source, sodium sulfite as sulfur source and ammonium ferric citrate as indicator. Cycloserine, a key selective inhibitor, can effectively inhibit the growth of most non-target bacteria. Under anaerobic conditions, Clostridium perfringens reduces sulfite to produce hydrogen sulfide, which reacts with iron ions to form insoluble black iron sulfide precipitate, resulting in black characteristics of colonies. This culture medium is a standard method for detecting and counting Clostridium perfringens in food, water quality and environmental samples.
