Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) Assay Kit
Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) Assay Kit
Superoxide Dismutase (SOD, EC 1.15.1.1) is a metalloenzyme widely present in organisms. As a key oxygen free radical scavenger, it catalyzes the dismutation of superoxide anions (O₂⁻·) into hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) and oxygen (O₂). SOD is not only a superoxide anion scavenging enzyme but also a major H₂O₂-producing enzyme, playing a crucial role in the biological antioxidant system. A superoxide anion (O₂⁻·) is generated through the xanthine-xanthine oxidase reaction system. This O₂⁻· can reduce nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) to form blue formazan, which has an absorption peak at 560 nm. SOD can scavenge O₂⁻·, thereby inhibiting the formation of formazan. The darker the blue color of the reaction solution, the lower the SOD activity; conversely, the lighter the blue color, the higher the SOD activity.
