Glucose oxidase (GOD, EC 1.1.3.4) is widely present in animals and plants. It catalyzes the oxidation of glucose to form gluconic acid and produces hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂), which is one of the metabolic pathways for reactive oxygen species production in organisms.

GOD catalyzes the oxidation of glucose to generate H₂O₂. In the presence of oxygen, peroxidase catalyzes the decomposition of H₂O₂, and the resulting oxygen oxidizes o-dianisidine to form a colored substance. The intensity of the color has a linear relationship with the activity of glucose oxidase.
