Mulberry Fruit Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) Assay Kit
Mulberry Fruit Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) Assay Kit
Superoxide dismutase (SOD, EC 1.15.1.1) is widely present in animals, plants, microorganisms, and cultured cells. It catalyzes the dismutation of superoxide anions to generate hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) and oxygen (O₂). SOD is not only a superoxide anion-scavenging enzyme but also a major enzyme for H₂O₂ production, playing a crucial role in the biological antioxidant system. The xanthine-xanthine oxidase reaction system is used to generate superoxide anions (O₂⁻). O₂⁻ can reduce nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) to form blue formazan, which has absorption at 560 nm. SOD can scavenge O₂⁻, thereby inhibiting the formation of formazan. The darker the blue color of the reaction solution, the lower the SOD activity, and vice versa.
