Yeast Mannitol Broth (YMB)

Yeast Extract Mannitol Broth (YMB), also referred to as YEM medium, and Yeast Extract Mannitol Agar (YMA) are used for cultivating, isolating, and counting soil microorganisms such as Rhizobium and Agrobacterium. Yeast extract serves as a source of amino acids, containing B vitamins and growth factors for Rhizobium. The redox potential of this medium is also favorable for Rhizobium and can act as a hydrogen donor during respiration. Mannitol serves as a fermentable source of sugar and alcohol, while calcium and magnesium provide essential cations for Rhizobium growth.
