Yeast Mannitol Broth (YMA)

Yeast Extract Mannitol Broth, commonly known as YMB medium or YEM medium: Yeast Extract Mannitol Agar, commonly as YMA medium, is used for the cultivation, isolation, and counting of soil microorganisms such as Rhizobium and Agrobacterium. Yeast extract, as source of amino acids, contains B group vitamins and rhizobium growth factors. The redox potential of the medium is also favorable for Rhizobium and acts as a donor during respiration: Mannitol is a fermentable sugar and alcohol source; calcium and magnesium provide the necessary cations for rhizobium growth.
