Ceruloplasmin is a copper-containing protein in plasma. It has the function of transporting copper and also exhibits oxidase activity, serving as an important antioxidant in the extracellular fluid. Ceruloplasmin catalyzes the conversion of 3,3’,5,5’-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) into a blue product, which has a characteristic absorption peak at 645 nm. The activity of ceruloplasmin can be determined based on this property.
