Total Mercapto(-SH) Assay Kit 

Thiol groups in organisms mainly include glutathione thiol groups and protein thiol groups. The former can not only repair oxidatively damaged proteins but also participate in reactive oxygen species scavenging, while the latter plays an important role in maintaining protein conformation. The content of protein thiol groups can be indirectly determined by measuring the total thiol content and glutathione (GSH) content.

Thiol groups react with 5,5’-dithio-bis-(2-nitrobenzoic acid) (DTNB) to form a yellow compound, which has a maximum absorption peak at 412 nm.
