Anaerobic yolk agar
Anaerobic yolk agar is a differential medium for detecting specific enzyme activities of anaerobic bacteria, especially for the identification of Clostridium. Its base is nutrient-rich agar, and the key additive is 50% yolk salt suspension. After being cultured under strict anaerobic conditions, lecithin and lipoprotein in yolk can be used as substrates for corresponding enzymes: opaque milky white precipitation circles will be formed around the colonies of lecithin (α-toxin) positive bacteria (such as Clostridium perfringens); For lipase-positive bacteria, pearl luster layer appeared below the colony. This culture medium is an important tool for the classification, identification and pathogenicity evaluation of anaerobic bacteria.
