Nitrite Reductase (NiR) Assay Kit
Nitrite Reductase (NiR) Assay Kit
Nitrite reductase (NiR) is a type of enzyme that catalyzes the reduction of nitrite. It is widely present in microorganisms and plants, and serves as a key enzyme in the natural nitrogen cycle. NiR can degrade nitrite into NO (nitric oxide) or NH₃ (ammonia), thereby reducing the accumulation of nitrite nitrogen in the environment and alleviating the toxic effects on organisms caused by nitrite accumulation. Nitrite reductase can reduce nitrite ions (NO₂⁻) to NO. This reduction decreases the amount of NO₂⁻ in the sample that would otherwise participate in the diazotization reaction to form a fuchsin azo compound. In other words, the change in absorbance at 540 nm can reflect the activity of nitrite reductase.
