Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase/Aspartate Aminotransferase (GOT/AST) Activity Assay Kit
Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase/Aspartate Aminotransferase (GOT/AST) Activity Assay Kit
Glutamate-oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT, EC 2.6.1.1) is widely present in animals, plants, microorganisms, and cultured cells. It catalyzes reversible transamination reactions and is an important enzyme in amino acid metabolism. Additionally, GOT has the highest content in myocardial cells; clinically, it is generally used as an auxiliary test for myocardial infarction and myocarditis. Its serum concentration can also increase when liver damage occurs. GOT catalyzes the transamination reaction between α-ketoglutarate and aspartic acid (asparaginic acid), producing glutamic acid and oxaloacetic acid. Oxaloacetic acid further undergoes spontaneous decarboxylation to form pyruvic acid. Pyruvic acid can react with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine to form 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone, which exhibits a brownish-red color under alkaline conditions. The activity of GOT can be calculated by measuring the change in absorbance at 505 nm.
