Blood Glucose Content Assay Kit
Blood Glucose Content Assay Kit
Glucose in mammalian blood is called blood glucose, which is the main transport form of sugar in the body. The concentration of blood glucose is regulated by the nervous system and hormones to maintain relative stability; when regulation is imbalanced, hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia occur. Hyperglycemia can be caused by conditions such as diabetes mellitus, increased intracranial pressure, and dehydration; physiological hyperglycemia can also occur after meals or during mental stress. In contrast, symptoms of hypoglycemia can occur in cases such as pancreatic β-cell hyperplasia or tumors, hypofunction of the pituitary gland, adrenal cortex, and thyroid gland, as well as in patients with severe liver diseases. In addition, hunger and strenuous exercise can cause temporary hypoglycemia. Glucose oxidase (GOD) can catalyze the oxidation of glucose to gluconic acid, with the production of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂); peroxidase (POD) then catalyzes the oxidation of 4-aminoantipyrine-coupled phenol by hydrogen peroxide, forming a colored compound which has a characteristic absorption peak at 505 nm.
