Reducing Sugar Content Assay Kit
Reducing Sugar Content Assay Kit
Reducing sugars are widely present in animals, plants, microorganisms, and cultured cells. Reducing sugars in plants mainly include glucose, fructose, and maltose, which are the most common monosaccharides and disaccharides. Among them, glucose and fructose are not only the main substrates for respiration but also serve as substrates for the further synthesis of sucrose, starch, and cellulose. Heating promotes the reaction between 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid (DNS) solution and reducing sugars in an alkaline solution, forming a brownish-red amino compound that has a characteristic absorption peak at 540 nm. Within a certain concentration range, the content of reducing sugars has a linear relationship with the absorbance at 540 nm. The content of reducing sugars in the sample can be calculated based on the standard curve.
