β-glucosidase(β-GC) Assay Kit

β-Glucocerebrosidase (β-GC, EC 3.2.1.21) is widely present in animals, plants, microorganisms, and cultured cells. It catalyzes the hydrolysis of β-glycosidic bonds and exhibits multiple physiological functions: in the saccharification of cellulose, β-GC is responsible for further hydrolyzing cellobiose and cellulose oligosaccharides to produce glucose; it hydrolyzes terpene aroma precursors, converting glycosidically bound forms into free forms to generate fragrance; it can hydrolyze prunasin in plants to release hydrogen cyanide (HCN), thereby preventing insect feeding.

β-GC decomposes p-nitrophenyl-β-D-glucopyranoside to generate p-nitrophenol, which has a maximum absorption peak at 400 nm. The activity of β-GC can be calculated by measuring the rate of increase in absorbance.
