Alkaline Xylanase (BAX) Assay Kit
Alkaline Xylanase (BAX) Assay Kit
Xylanase (EC 3.2.1.8) is mainly produced by microorganisms and can catalyze the hydrolysis of xylan. Also known as pentosanase or hemicellulase, it can decompose cell walls of raw materials and β-glucan in the brewing or feed industry. It reduces the viscosity of materials in brewing to promote the release of effective substances, and decreases non-starch polysaccharides in feed to enhance the absorption and utilization of nutrients. Therefore, it is widely used in the brewing and feed industries. BAX (a type of xylanase) is generally isolated from microorganisms with an optimal growth pH of 9–11. BAX catalyzes the degradation of xylan into reducing oligosaccharides and monosaccharides in an alkaline environment. These products further react with 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid (DNS) under boiling water bath conditions to form a colored reaction. The reaction product has a characteristic absorption peak at 540 nm, and the intensity of the reaction solution's color is proportional to the amount of reducing sugars produced by enzymatic hydrolysis. The activity of BAX can be calculated by measuring the rate of increase in the absorbance of the reaction solution at 540 nm.
