LIM medium

LIM medium (lactic acid induction medium) is a special medium for detecting L- variant of bacteria. Its basic components are beef extract, peptone and plasma, which provide basic nutrition for hypertonic environment; The key additive is 10-20% sucrose or sodium chloride to maintain osmotic pressure, and the inducer (such as penicillin) inhibits cell wall synthesis. By creating hypertonic conditions and inhibiting cell wall synthesis, the culture medium can promote bacteria to transform into L- type with cell wall defect, and is used for the separation and identification of L- type bacteria in clinical specimens, especially for the study of chronic or recurrent infections with negative conventional culture.
