BETA-SSA agar is a solid medium for selective separation of group A β -hemolytic streptococcus. Its basic components are casein trypsin digest and meat paste, which provide basic nutrition; The key selective additives are colistin and sulfamethoxazole, which can effectively inhibit gram-negative bacteria and most gram-positive miscellaneous bacteria. Sheep blood in the culture medium can support the growth of streptococcus and directly observe β -hemolysis phenomenon. The culture medium can efficiently separate group A streptococcus by highly selectively inhibiting miscellaneous bacteria and retaining typical hemolytic characteristics, and is widely used for rapid screening of streptococcus in clinical throat swab samples.
