MEI medium

MEI medium (M-enterococciagar) is a solid medium for selective separation and enumeration of enterococci. Its basic components include peptone and yeast extract powder, and the key selective inhibitor sodium azide can effectively inhibit gram-negative bacteria and most non-target gram-positive bacteria. The medium contains triphenyltetrazole chloride (TTC) as an indicator, and enterococcus reduces TTC to form red or pink colonies. This culture medium is suitable for quantitative detection of enterococci in water quality, food and environmental samples, and it is one of the standard methods for counting fecal streptococci in hygienic microbiology inspection.
