Methylcitrate Synthase (MCS) Assay Kit
Methylcitrate Synthase (MCS) Assay Kit
Methyl-Citrate Synthase (MCS) is widely present in the mitochondrial matrix of animals, plants, microorganisms, and cultured cells. It participates in the regulation of the tricarboxylic acid cycle together with citrate synthase (CS). MCS catalyzes propionyl-CoA and oxaloacetic acid to produce methylcitryl-CoA, which is further hydrolyzed to generate methylcitric acid. This reaction promotes the conversion of colorless 5,5'-dithiobis-(2-nitrobenzoic acid) (DTNB) into yellow 2-nitro-5-thiobenzoic acid (TNB). TNB has a characteristic absorption peak at 412 nm, and MCS activity can be calculated based on this property.
