Enterococcus agar

Enterococcus agar is a solid medium for selective separation and enumeration of enterococci. Its basic components include peptone and yeast extract powder, and the key selective inhibitor sodium azide can effectively inhibit gram-negative bacteria and most non-target gram-positive bacteria. The culture medium contains aescin and ammonium ferric citrate. Enterococcus hydrolyzed aescin and reacted with iron ions to form a dark brown precipitate. At the same time, TTC indicator was added to make the colony red. The agar was identified by typical dark brown halo and red colony, and was widely used in the detection of enterococci in water quality and food.
