Bile aescinate agar (BEA)
Bile salt aescinate agar is a solid medium for selective separation and identification of enterococcus and group D streptococcus. Its basic components include peptone and beef extract powder, and bile salt as a key selective inhibitor can effectively inhibit gram-positive non-target bacteria. The culture medium contains aescin and ammonium ferric citrate, and the escin produced by target bacteria hydrolyzing aescin reacts with iron ions to form dark brown precipitate. The agar was identified by typical dark brown colony or halo, and was widely used for rapid screening of group D streptococcus in clinical and environmental samples.
