PCSK9 Vector
PCSK9 (proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9) is a protease secreted by the liver, primarily involved in the regulation of cholesterol metabolism. It promotes the degradation of low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDLR) within cells by binding to them, thereby reducing the liver's clearance of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) from the blood, which leads to elevated LDL-C levels in the bloodstream and constitutes an important risk factor for cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis. In research, PCSK9 expression vectors (such as pcDNA3.1-PCSK9) are often constructed to transfect cells, or gene-editing techniques are used to regulate its expression, in order to explore its mechanisms in cholesterol metabolism. Additionally, PCSK9 inhibitors (such as monoclonal antibodies) have become important drugs in clinical practice for lowering LDL-C and preventing cardiovascular diseases, demonstrating their dual value in both basic research and clinical application.
