Peptone sorbitol bile salt broth (PSBB)

Peptone sorbitol bile salt broth (PSBB) is a liquid medium for selective enrichment of Bacillus cereus. Its basic components are peptone and beef extract powder. The key selective inhibitor polymyxin B can effectively inhibit gram-negative bacteria, while bile salt can inhibit gram-positive non-target bacteria. Sorbitol is used as fermentable carbon source and phenol red is used as acid-base indicator. Bacillus cereus fermented sorbitol to produce acid, which changed the culture medium from red to yellow. The broth was used for constructive detection and enrichment of Bacillus cereus in food and other samples, which provided a basis for subsequent separation and identification.
