Bifidobacterium agar medium

Bifidobacterium agar medium is a solid medium for selective separation and enumeration of Bifidobacterium. Its basic components are prebiotics such as peptone, yeast extract and fructooligosaccharides, and the key selective additives are cysteine hydrochloride and mupirocin. The former reduces the redox potential and provides an anaerobic environment, while the latter inhibits most Gram-positive bacteria. The added TPP (triphenyltetrazole) can make the colony appear white or light pink. The culture medium can support the growth of Bifidobacterium and inhibit miscellaneous bacteria, and is widely used for quantitative analysis of Bifidobacterium in probiotic products and infant food.
