MRS medium is a solid/liquid medium for selective separation and culture of lactobacillus. Its basic components include peptone, beef extract powder and yeast extract powder, which provide rich nitrogen sources and growth factors; The key additives are Tween 80, sodium acetate and ammonium citrate, which can promote the growth of lactobacillus and form a selective environment. Glucose is the main carbon source and bromocresol green is the acid-base indicator. Lactobacillus ferments to produce acid, which turns yellow around the colony. The culture medium is widely used for the separation, counting and culture of lactobacillus in food and probiotic products.
