BCG milk medium

BCG milk medium is a selective medium for rapid identification of lactic acid bacteria. Its basic ingredient is skim milk powder to provide casein and lactose, and the key additive is bromocresol green (BCG) indicator. When lactic acid bacteria ferment lactose to produce acid, the culture medium changes from blue-green to yellow, and casein forms curd due to acid coagulation. The culture medium can quickly screen and identify lactic acid bacteria through color change and curd phenomenon, and is widely used for qualitative and preliminary identification of lactic acid bacteria in dairy starter and probiotic products.
