GYP agar medium
GYP agar medium is a differential medium for screening protease-producing microorganisms. Its basic components are glucose, yeast extract and peptone (GYP), which provide carbon source, nitrogen source and growth factor. The key additive is skim milk or casein. Microorganisms that can secrete extracellular protease can decompose insoluble casein in culture medium and form transparent hydrolysis circle around colonies. By observing the ratio of transparent circle to colony diameter, protease activity can be preliminarily evaluated, which is widely used in screening enzyme-producing strains and separating and identifying industrial protease-producing strains.
