Serum Total Iron Binding Capacity(TIBC) Assay Kit
Serum Total Iron Binding Capacity(TIBC) Assay Kit
Excess iron is added to the serum, causing all iron transport proteins in the serum to bind with iron. An iron adsorbent is then added to remove the excess iron. Next, under the action of an acidic solution and a reducing agent, the iron in the transport proteins is separated from the proteins, reducing the ferric iron in the serum to ferrous iron, which then forms a pink complex with bipyridine. Within a certain range, the amount of iron ions is positively correlated with color. The measured iron content is referred to as TIBC, and subtracting the serum iron value from TIBC is termed unsaturated iron-binding capacity (UIBC).
