RSMA medium
RSMA medium is a solid medium for selective separation of Salmonella in food. Its basic components are peptone and yeast extract powder, and the key selective system includes sodium deoxycholate, sodium citrate and sodium thiosulfate, which can inhibit gram-positive bacteria and some non-target gram-negative bacteria. The sucrose fermentation in the culture medium and neutral red indicator form the identification mechanism: Salmonella does not ferment sucrose as colorless transparent colonies, while most coliforms are pink colonies due to acid production. This culture medium is widely used for rapid screening and separation of Salmonella in food and environmental samples.
