HHD agar
HHD agar is a solid medium used to identify homofermentative and heterofermentative lactic acid bacteria. Its basic components are peptone, yeast extract and maltose, and its key additives are bromocresol purple indicator and specific inhibitor. Homologous fermentation of lactic acid bacteria mainly produces lactic acid, which makes the colony around yellow; In addition to lactic acid, heterotypic fermentation bacteria also produce acetic acid and carbon dioxide, and their metabolic differences lead to different colony morphology and discoloration characteristics. The culture medium realizes the preliminary identification of two kinds of lactic acid bacteria by colony color and morphology, and is widely used in microbial community analysis and strain screening of fermented food.
