PCFA medium

PCFA medium is a solid medium for selective separation of pathogenic Vibrio. Its basic components are peptone, yeast extract powder and sodium chloride, which provide hypertonic environment and basic nutrition for the growth of Vibrio. The key selective inhibitors are polymyxin B and cefoperazone, which can effectively inhibit gram-positive bacteria and most non-target gram-negative bacteria. The culture medium can identify pathogenic vibrios such as Vibrio cholerae through typical colony morphology and color reaction, and is widely used for rapid detection of vibrios in aquatic products and clinical samples.
