Iron sulfite polymyxin b agar

Iron sulfite polymyxin B agar is a solid medium for selective separation and enumeration of Clostridium perfringens. Its basic components provide basic nutrition for peptone and yeast extract powder, and the key components sodium sulfite and ammonium ferric citrate form a color development system; Polymyxin B as a selective inhibitor can effectively inhibit gram-negative bacteria. Under anaerobic conditions, Clostridium perfringens reduced sulfite to produce hydrogen sulfide, which reacted with iron ions to form black precipitate, making the colony appear characteristic black. The culture medium is widely used for rapid detection of Clostridium perfringens in food hygiene inspection.
