Chymotrypsin, also known as pancreatic chymotrypsin, is a type of proteinase secreted by the pancreas that can rapidly break down denatured proteins. The function of chymotrypsin is similar to that of trypsin, but it has advantages such as stronger decomposition capability, lower toxicity, and fewer adverse reactions. Clinically, chymotrypsin is used to thin mucus and is effective for both purulent and non-purulent sputum; it is also used for wound healing after trauma or surgery, such as after cataract removal. Chymotrypsin catalyzes the hydrolysis of BTEE, and the product has characteristic light absorption at 256nm; the activity of chymotrypsin is calculated by measuring the rate of increase in light absorption at 256nm.
